About Mrs Stanley

Mrs Stanley is the name Tracey Collins has adopted for her work as a Children's Storyteller. It is also her married name!

Mrs Stanley has been telling stories in schools, libraries and at community events since 2006. Her stories will engage and entertain children as well as bring to life the themes that most affect and interest them.  Mrs Stanley will do her best to accommodate your requests and tailor each session to the needs of a particular group.

A session will usually last 40 - 60 minutes and can contain a mix of stories, songs, poetry and responding to children's questions or comments. It will be very participative and can be adapted to small or large groups. Generally a maximum of about 30 children allows for the best connection with the children. Mrs Stanley will ask for at least one supervising adult to be present, this means that someone the children know has been part of the session and can talk with them about it later. Mrs Stanley has enhanced DBS clearance and Public Liability insurance.

Mrs Stanley has had particularly good feedback about her ability to hold the attention of children who may find it difficult to concentrate.  If there are children with additional support needs in the group, it may be helpful to have additional people on hand to make sure all children get the full benefit of the storytelling session.

Please email or call Tracey/Mrs Stanley on 07930 450829 for information about fees and to discuss your requirements.

Storytelling and Reading

Mrs Stanley has a special interest in storytelling that connects books and reading with the ancient art of live storytelling. Her repertoire includes stories that are a unique telling of popular children's picture books. She thinks story reading and storytelling are both wonderful and valuable but they are not the same thing.  She has chosen to become a storyteller because of the magic that happens amidst the immediate and reciprocal act of a story told live. Magic happens when a story is read too, which is why she would always want to lead children towards a good book.  Mrs Stanley has had some success in using storytelling as a way to engage with unenthusiastic or struggling readers and is developing this work in partnership with local schools. Get in touch if you are interested to know more.
